Martin Amis’s novels—ranked!

Martin Amis, the literary world’s oldest enfant terrible, is 70 years old tomorrow. Which sounds like a good time to ask: how’s his career going?

  1. Martin Amis should have been in his prime in the 2000s, but his career has had an observable downward slope. It reminds me of his father Kingsley who never surpassed his young work ‘Lucky Jim’.

I’m finding that quite a few fiction writers peak with their early work.
